Rabbi Chananya, of the third amoraic generation in Eretz Yisrael, is cited some seventy times across twenty-four tractates, most heavily in Shekalim, whose Gemara in our Shas is the Yerushalmi's.

Several sages bear the name and the Bavli does not separate them; the entry is marked for review rather than decided. Beyond the generation and the setting — the Eretz-Yisrael academies of his day — the reference tradition holds little about him that can be stated firmly.

Several sages of the name; not separated here.
