Rabbi Aivu, of the fourth amoraic generation in Eretz Yisrael, is named seven times across six tractates, and in five of those places he is reporting a teaching in an earlier authority's name — Rabbi Yannai's four times over. The proportion marks him as a transmitter more than a decisor.

He is cited in the circle of Rabbi Yannai and Rabbi Yochanan, beside Rabbi Abbahu. The roster records a second form of his name and marks the entry for review, since more than one sage of Eretz Yisrael bears it.
