רבי אבא בר זבדא Rabbi Abba bar Zavda
Amora of the Land of Israel · 3rd generation (c. 290–320 CE) — named 27 times across 14 tractates of the Bavli.
Rabbi Abba bar Zavda, of the third amoraic generation in Eretz Yisrael, sat in Tiberias. Thirteen of his citations carry a teaching in Rav's name, so that despite his place in the land he is one of the channels through which Babylonian learning reached it.
He is named some twenty-seven times across fourteen tractates, heaviest in Sukkah and Bava Metzia. To him belongs the ruling on Israel's standing that the tradition has never stopped quoting: though he has sinned, he is an Israelite still.
Of Tiberias.
