רבי אבא בר ממל Rabbi Abba bar Memel
Amora of the Land of Israel · 3rd generation (c. 290–320 CE) — named 44 times across 20 tractates of the Bavli.
Rabbi Abba bar Memel, of the third amoraic generation in Eretz Yisrael, appears in the company of Rabbi Ami, Rabbi Abbahu and Rabbi Chiya bar Abba — the circle of Rabbi Yochanan's students who led the academies after him.
He is cited some forty-five times across twenty tractates, weighted toward the civil law. His name also appears in the Yerushalmi spelling in Shekalim, whose Gemara in our Shas is the Yerushalmi's. Beyond his generation and his circle, little more is firmly established about him.
Of Eretz Yisrael.
