רבי אבא בר כהנא Rabbi Abba bar Kahana

Amora of the Land of Israel · 3rd generation (c. 290–320 CE) — named 26 times across 11 tractates of the Bavli.

Amora of the Land of Israel · 3rd generation×26 named in the Bavli11 tractates

Rabbi Abba bar Kahana, of the third amoraic generation in Eretz Yisrael, was an aggadist, and the shape of his citations in the Bavli is the shape of aggada: Sanhedrin and Shabbat carry nearly half of them, and Berachot, Bava Metzia and Megillah most of the rest.

He is named some twenty-six times across eleven tractates. He is far better represented in the midrashic collections of Eretz Yisrael than in the Bavli, which meets him only in passing.

An aggadist.
