The Sages of the Talmud

נחום איש גם זו Nachum ish Gamzu

Tanna · 1st generation (c. 10–80 CE) — named 8 times across 5 tractates of the Bavli.

Tanna · 1st generation×8 named in the Bavli5 tractates

Nachum ish Gamzu, of the first tannaitic generation, was Rabbi Akiva's teacher, and the name the tradition knows him by is drawn from his habit of saying over whatever befell him that this too is for the good.

The Talmud tells his story at length in Taanit — the gift he carried to the emperor, the dust found in the chest in place of the jewels, and the deliverance that came of it — and it is there, and in the accounts of how he bore his sufferings, that most of his eight mentions fall. Rabbi Akiva's manner of expounding every particle of the Torah is traced to him.

Taught 'this too is for the good'.
