Mar son of Ravina, of the sixth Babylonian generation, is remembered as an ascetic, and for the short prayer with which he would close his own Amidah: My God, guard my tongue from evil and my lips from speaking deceit. The prayer was taken into the order of service and stands there still, at the end of the Amidah, said by every worshipper.

He is named some thirty times across eleven tractates, a third of them in Berachot and the next largest share in Shabbat.
