בר קפרא Bar Kappara
Tanna · 5th generation (c. 170–200 CE) — named 132 times across 29 tractates of the Bavli.
Bar Kappara belongs to the last tannaitic generation and was a student of Rabbi Yehuda HaNasi, in whose circle he stood as a teacher in his own right. Like Rabbi Chiya he kept his own collection of tannaitic teachings, and the Talmud cites it as the school of Bar Kappara taught, a body of baraitot standing beside the Mishnah.
He was known for wit — for riddles and for verses composed on the spot — and the Talmud tells of the wedding feast at Rebbi's house where his humour went further than his teacher liked. He is named some hundred and thirty times, heaviest in Yevamot and Berachot, and is regularly cited beside Rabbi Yehoshua ben Levi.
A tanna of Rebbi's circle with his own collection of baraitot.
