אכלנו הממנו נְבוּכַדְרֶאצַּר מֶלֶךְ בָּבֶל הציגנו כְּלִי רִיק בלענו כַּתַּנִּין מִלָּא כְרֵשׂוֹ מֵֽעֲדָנָי הדיחנו
Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon hath devoured me, He hath crushed me, He hath set me down as an empty vessel, He hath swallowed me up like a dragon, He hath filled his maw with my delicacies; He hath washed me clean.
חֲמָסִי וּשְׁאֵרִי עַל־בָּבֶל תֹּאמַר יֹשֶׁבֶת צִיּוֹן וְדָמִי אֶל־יֹשְׁבֵי כַשְׂדִּים תֹּאמַר יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם
’The violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon’, Shall the inhabitant of Zion say; And: ‘My blood be upon the inhabitants of Chaldea’, Shall Jerusalem say.
לָכֵן כֹּה אָמַר יְהוָה הִנְנִי־רָב אֶת־רִיבֵךְ וְנִקַּמְתִּי אֶת־נִקְמָתֵךְ וְהַחֲרַבְתִּי אֶת־יַמָּהּ וְהֹבַשְׁתִּי אֶת־מְקוֹרָֽהּ
Therefore thus saith the LORD: Behold, I will plead thy cause, And take vengeance for thee; And I will dry up her sea, And make her fountain dry.
וְהָיְתָה בָבֶל לְגַלִּים מְעוֹן־תַּנִּים שַׁמָּה וּשְׁרֵקָה מֵאֵין יוֹשֵֽׁב
And Babylon shall become heaps, A dwelling-place for jackals, An astonishment, and a hissing, Without inhabitant.
יַחְדָּו כַּכְּפִרִים יִשְׁאָגוּ נָעֲרוּ כְּגוֹרֵי אֲרָיֽוֹת
They shall roar together like young lions; They shall growl as lions’whelps.
