וַיַּכְרֵת יְהוָה מִיִּשְׂרָאֵל רֹאשׁ וְזָנָב כִּפָּה וְאַגְמוֹן יוֹם אֶחָֽד
Therefore the LORD doth cut off from Israel head and tail, palm-branch and rush, in one day.
זָקֵן וּנְשׂוּא־פָנִים הוּא הָרֹאשׁ וְנָבִיא מֽוֹרֶה־שֶּׁקֶר הוּא הַזָּנָֽב
The elder and the man of rank, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail.
וַיִּֽהְיוּ מְאַשְּׁרֵי הָֽעָם־הַזֶּה מַתְעִים וּמְאֻשָּׁרָיו מְבֻלָּעִֽים
For they that lead this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.
עַל־כֵּן עַל־בַּחוּרָיו לֹֽא־יִשְׂמַח אֲדֹנָי וְאֶת־יְתֹמָיו וְאֶת־אַלְמְנֹתָיו לֹא יְרַחֵם כִּי כֻלּוֹ חָנֵף וּמֵרַע וְכָל־פֶּה דֹּבֵר נְבָלָה בְּכָל־זֹאת לֹא־שָׁב אַפּוֹ וְעוֹד יָדוֹ נְטוּיָֽה
Therefore the Lord shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall He have compassion on their fatherless and widows; For every one is ungodly and an evil-doer, And every mouth speaketh wantonness. For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
כִּֽי־בָעֲרָה כָאֵשׁ רִשְׁעָה שָׁמִיר וָשַׁיִת תֹּאכֵל וַתִּצַּת בְּסִֽבְכֵי הַיַּעַר וַיִּֽתְאַבְּכוּ גֵּאוּת עָשָֽׁן
For wickedness burneth as the fire; it devoureth the briers and thorns; yea, it kindleth in the thickets of the forest, And they roll upward in thick clouds of smoke.
