אֱלוֹהַּ Eloah

These are the words the lexicon carries under this Name, counting every form the text writes it in — with a particle fused to the front, or bound to what follows — which is the number on the list.
The singular of Elohim, and a Name in its own right. It belongs above all to the poetry of the Tanakh — Iyov says it more than every other book together — and to the Song of Ha'azinu, where Israel is charged with forgetting the God who made him.
וַיִּשְׁמַן יְשֻׁרוּן וַיִּבְעָט שָׁמַנְתָּ עָבִיתָ כָּשִׂיתָ וַיִּטֹּשׁ אֱלוֹהַ עָשָׂהוּ וַיְנַבֵּל צוּר יְשֻׁעָתֽוֹ
But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked— Thou didst wax fat, thou didst grow thick, thou didst become gross— And he forsook God who made him, And contemned the Rock of his salvation.
יִזְבְּחוּ לַשֵּׁדִים לֹא אֱלֹהַ אֱלֹהִים לֹא יְדָעוּם חֲדָשִׁים מִקָּרֹב בָּאוּ לֹא שְׂעָרוּם אֲבֹתֵיכֶֽם
They sacrificed unto demons, no-gods, Gods that they knew not, New gods that came up of late, Which your fathers dreaded not.
וְהָעַוִּים עָשׂוּ נִבְחַז וְאֶת־תַּרְתָּק וְהַסְפַרְוִים שֹׂרְפִים אֶת־בְּנֵיהֶם בָּאֵשׁ לְאַדְרַמֶּלֶךְ וַֽעֲנַמֶּלֶךְ אלה ספרים
and the Avvites made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burnt their children in the fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim.
אַֽל־תִּפְחֲדוּ וְאַל־תִּרְהוּ הֲלֹא מֵאָז הִשְׁמַעְתִּיךָ וְהִגַּדְתִּי וְאַתֶּם עֵדָי הֲיֵשׁ אֱלוֹהַּ מִבַּלְעָדַי וְאֵין צוּר בַּל־יָדָֽעְתִּי
Fear ye not, neither be afraid; Have I not announced unto thee of old, and declared it? And ye are My witnesses. Is there a God beside Me? Yea, there is no Rock; I know not any.
אֱלוֹהַ מִתֵּימָן יָבוֹא וְקָדוֹשׁ מֵֽהַר־פָּארָן סֶלָה כִּסָּה שָׁמַיִם הוֹדוֹ וּתְהִלָּתוֹ מָלְאָה הָאָֽרֶץ
God cometh from Teman, And the Holy One from mount Paran. Selah His glory covereth the heavens, And the earth is full of His praise.
כִּי מִי אֱלוֹהַּ מִבַּלְעֲדֵי יְהוָה וּמִי צוּר זוּלָתִי אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ
For who is God, save the LORD? And who is a Rock, except our God?
חַי־יְהוָה וּבָרוּךְ צוּרִי וְיָרוּם אֱלוֹהֵי יִשְׁעִֽי
The LORD liveth, and blessed be my Rock; and exalted be the God of my salvation;
בִּֽינוּ־נָא זֹאת שֹׁכְחֵי אֱלוֹהַּ פֶּן־אֶטְרֹף וְאֵין מַצִּֽיל
Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear in pieces, and there be none to deliver.
מִלִּפְנֵי אָדוֹן חוּלִי אָרֶץ מִלִּפְנֵי אֱלוֹהַּ יַעֲקֹֽב
Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, At the presence of the God of Jacob;
אִם־תִּקְטֹל אֱלוֹהַּ רָשָׁע וְאַנְשֵׁי דָמִים סוּרוּ מֶֽנִּי
If Thou but wouldest slay the wicked, O God— Depart from me therefore, ye men of blood;

תְּהִלָּה לְדָוִד אֲרוֹמִמְךָ אֱלוֹהַי הַמֶּלֶךְ וַאֲבָרֲכָה שִׁמְךָ לְעוֹלָם וָעֶֽד
[A Psalm of] praise; of David. I will extol Thee, my God, O King; And I will bless Thy name for ever and ever.
כָּל־אִמְרַת אֱלוֹהַּ צְרוּפָה מָגֵן הוּא לַֽחֹסִים בּֽוֹ
Every word of God is tried; He is a shield unto them that take refuge in Him.
הַיּוֹם הַהוּא יְֽהִי חֹשֶׁךְ אַֽל־יִדְרְשֵׁהוּ אֱלוֹהַּ מִמָּעַל וְאַל־תּוֹפַע עָלָיו נְהָרָֽה
Let that day be darkness; Let not God inquire after it from above, Neither let the light shine upon it.
לְגֶבֶר אֲשֶׁר־דַּרְכּוֹ נִסְתָּרָה וַיָּסֶךְ אֱלוֹהַּ בַּעֲדֽוֹ
To a man whose way is hid, And whom God hath hedged in?
מִנִּשְׁמַת אֱלוֹהַ יֹאבֵדוּ וּמֵרוּחַ אַפּוֹ יִכְלֽוּ
By the breath of God they perish, And by the blast of His anger are they consumed.
הַֽאֱנוֹשׁ מֵאֱלוֹהַ יִצְדָּק אִם מֵעֹשֵׂהוּ יִטְהַר־גָּֽבֶר
’Shall mortal man be just before God? Shall a man be pure before his Maker?
הִנֵּה אַשְׁרֵי אֱנוֹשׁ יוֹכִחֶנּֽוּ אֱלוֹהַּ וּמוּסַר שַׁדַּי אַל־תִּמְאָֽס
Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth; Therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty.
כִּי חִצֵּי שַׁדַּי עִמָּדִי אֲשֶׁר חֲמָתָם שֹׁתָה רוּחִי בִּעוּתֵי אֱלוֹהַּ יַֽעַרְכֽוּנִי
For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison whereof my spirit drinketh up; the terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.
מִֽי־יִתֵּן תָּבוֹא שֶֽׁאֱלָתִי וְתִקְוָתִי יִתֵּן אֱלֽוֹהַּ
Oh that I might have my request, and that God would grant me the thing that I long for! .
וְיֹאֵל אֱלוֹהַּ וִֽידַכְּאֵנִי יַתֵּר יָדוֹ וִֽיבַצְּעֵֽנִי
Even that it would please God to crush me; that He would let loose His hand, and cut me off!
אֱלוֹהַּ לֹא־יָשִׁיב אַפּוֹ תחתו שָׁחֲחוּ עֹזְרֵי רָֽהַב
God will not withdraw His anger; The helpers of Rahab did stoop under Him.
אֹמַר אֶל־אֱלוֹהַּ אַל־תַּרְשִׁיעֵנִי הֽוֹדִיעֵנִי עַל מַה־תְּרִיבֵֽנִי
I will say unto God: Do not condemn me; Make me know wherefore Thou contendest with me.
וְֽאוּלָם מִֽי־יִתֵּן אֱלוֹהַּ דַּבֵּר וְיִפְתַּח שְׂפָתָיו עִמָּֽךְ
But oh that God would speak, And open His lips against thee;
וְיַגֶּד־לְךָ תַּֽעֲלֻמוֹת חָכְמָה כִּֽי־כִפְלַיִם לְֽתוּשִׁיָּה וְדַע כִּֽי־יַשֶּׁה לְךָ אֱלוֹהַ מֵעֲוֺנֶֽךָ
And that He would tell thee the secrets of wisdom, That sound wisdom is manifold! Know therefore that God exacteth of thee less than thine iniquity deserveth.
הַחֵקֶר אֱלוֹהַ תִּמְצָא אִם עַד־תַּכְלִית שַׁדַּי תִּמְצָֽא
Canst thou find out the deep things of God? Canst thou attain unto the purpose of the Almighty?
שְׂחֹק לְרֵעֵהוּ אֶֽהְיֶה קֹרֵא לֶאֱלוֹהַּ וַֽיַּעֲנֵהוּ שְׂחוֹק צַדִּיק תָּמִֽים
I am as one that is a laughing-stock to his neighbour, A man that called upon God, And He answered him; The just, the innocent man is a laughing-stock,
יִשְׁלָיוּ אֹֽהָלִים לְשֹׁדְדִים וּֽבַטֻּחוֹת לְמַרְגִּיזֵי אֵל לַאֲשֶׁר הֵבִיא אֱלוֹהַּ בְּיָדֽוֹ
The tents of robbers prosper, And they that provoke God are secure, In whatsoever God bringeth into their hand.
הַבְסוֹד אֱלוֹהַ תִּשְׁמָע וְתִגְרַע אֵלֶיךָ חָכְמָֽה
Dost thou hearken in the council of God? And dost thou restrain wisdom to thyself?
מְלִיצַי רֵעָי אֶל־אֱלוֹהַ דָּלְפָה עֵינִֽי
Mine inward thoughts are my intercessors, Mine eye poureth out tears unto God;
וְיוֹכַח לְגֶבֶר עִם־אֱלוֹהַּ וּֽבֶן־אָדָם לְרֵעֵֽהוּ
That He would set aright a man contending with God, As a son of man setteth aright his neighbour! .
דְּֽעוּ־אֵפוֹ כִּי־אֱלוֹהַּ עִוְּתָנִי וּמְצוּדוֹ עָלַי הִקִּֽיף
Know now that God hath subverted my cause, And hath compassed me with His net.
חָנֻּנִי חָנֻּנִי אַתֶּם רֵעָי כִּי יַד־אֱלוֹהַּ נָגְעָה בִּֽי
Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O ye my friends; For the hand of God hath touched me.
וְאַחַר עוֹרִֽי נִקְּפוּ־זֹאת וּמִבְּשָׂרִי אֶֽחֱזֶה אֱלֽוֹהַּ
And when after my skin this is destroyed, Then without my flesh shall I see God;
בָּתֵּיהֶם שָׁלוֹם מִפָּחַד וְלֹא שֵׁבֶט אֱלוֹהַּ עֲלֵיהֶֽם
Their houses are safe, without fear, Neither is the rod of God upon them.
אֱלוֹהַּ יִצְפֹּן־לְבָנָיו אוֹנוֹ יְשַׁלֵּם אֵלָיו וְיֵדָֽע
’God layeth up his iniquity for his children! ’— Let Him recompense it unto himself, that he may know it.
הֲֽלֹא־אֱלוֹהַּ גֹּבַהּ שָׁמָיִם וּרְאֵה רֹאשׁ כּוֹכָבִים כִּי־רָֽמּוּ
Is not God in the height of heaven? And behold the topmost of the stars, how high they are!
כִּי־אָז עַל־שַׁדַּי תִּתְעַנָּג וְתִשָּׂא אֶל־אֱלוֹהַּ פָּנֶֽיךָ
Then surely shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, And shalt lift up thy face unto God.
מֵעִיר מְתִים יִנְאָקוּ וְנֶֽפֶשׁ־חֲלָלִים תְּשַׁוֵּעַ וֶאֱלוֹהַּ לֹא־יָשִׂים תִּפְלָֽה
From out of the populous city men groan, And the soul of the wounded crieth out; Yet God imputeth it not for unseemliness.
כִּֽי־כָל־עוֹד נִשְׁמָתִי בִי וְרוּחַ אֱלוֹהַּ בְּאַפִּֽי
All the while my breath is in me And the spirit of God is in my nostrils,
כִּי מַה־תִּקְוַת חָנֵף כִּי יִבְצָע כִּי יֵשֶׁל אֱלוֹהַּ נַפְשֽׁוֹ
For what is the hope of the godless, though he get him gain, When God taketh away his soul?
אִם־עַל־שַׁדַּי יִתְעַנָּג יִקְרָא אֱלוֹהַּ בְּכָל־עֵֽת
Will he have his delight in the Almighty, And call upon God at all times?
מִֽי־יִתְּנֵנִי כְיַרְחֵי־קֶדֶם כִּימֵי אֱלוֹהַּ יִשְׁמְרֵֽנִי
Oh that I were as in the months of old, As in the days when God watched over me;
כַּאֲשֶׁר הָיִיתִי בִּימֵי חָרְפִּי בְּסוֹד אֱלוֹהַּ עֲלֵי אָהֳלִֽי
As I was in the days of my youth, When the converse of God was upon my tent;
וּמֶה חֵלֶק אֱלוֹהַּ מִמָּעַל וְֽנַחֲלַת שַׁדַּי מִמְּרֹמִֽים
For what would be the portion of God from above, And the heritage of the Almighty from on high?
יִשְׁקְלֵנִי בְמֹאזְנֵי־צֶדֶק וְיֵדַע אֱלוֹהַּ תֻּמָּתִֽי
Let me be weighed in a just balance, That God may know mine integrity—
הֶן־זֹאת לֹא־צָדַקְתָּ אֶעֱנֶךָּ כִּֽי־יִרְבֶּה אֱלוֹהַ מֵאֱנֽוֹשׁ
Behold, I answer thee: In this thou art not right, That God is too great for man;
יֶעְתַּר אֶל־אֱלוֹהַּ וַיִּרְצֵהוּ וַיַּרְא פָּנָיו בִּתְרוּעָה וַיָּשֶׁב לֶאֱנוֹשׁ צִדְקָתֽוֹ
He prayeth unto God, and He is favourable unto him; So that he seeth His face with joy; And He restoreth unto man his righteousness.
וְֽלֹא־אָמַר אַיֵּה אֱלוֹהַּ עֹשָׂי נֹתֵן זְמִרוֹת בַּלָּֽיְלָה
But none saith: ‘Where is God my Maker, Who giveth songs in the night;
כַּתַּר־לִי זְעֵיר וַאֲחַוֶּךָּ כִּי עוֹד לֶאֱלוֹהַּ מִלִּֽים
Suffer me a little, and I will tell thee; For there are yet words on God’s behalf.
