A prophet sent to warn Nineveh of its coming destruction, who fled instead by ship, was thrown overboard in a storm, and was swallowed by a great fish for three days and nights before being cast onto dry land. He then went to Nineveh, whose repentance he resented, and the book closes with God's rebuke of his anger (Book of Jonah). His name is also the Hebrew word for “dove,” so the count includes both uses.
