יְהוּדָה Yehudah
Often spelled Judah in English. Every verse in which this name stands — 819 places, in canonical order, first appearance to last. These are the occurrences our own corpus tags as this name, counting every form the text writes it in, which is the number on the list.
Fourth son of Yaakov and Leah, whose name Leah connected to praising God (Genesis 29:35). He proposed selling Yosef rather than killing him (Genesis 37), and his descendants became the tribe from which the line of kings, including David, descended (Genesis 49:10). This spelling is also an ordinary word built on the Hebrew root for praise or thanksgiving, so the count reflects both uses.
