As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away, So he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more.
גָּבְהֵי שָׁמַיִם מַה־תִּפְעָל עֲמֻקָּה מִשְּׁאוֹל מַה־תֵּדָֽע
It is high as heaven; what canst thou do? Deeper than the nether-world; what canst thou know?

אִם־אֲקַוֶּה שְׁאוֹל בֵּיתִי בַּחֹשֶׁךְ רִפַּדְתִּי יְצוּעָֽי
If I look for the nether-world as my house; If I have spread my couch in the darkness;
בַּדֵּי שְׁאֹל תֵּרַדְנָה אִם־יַחַד עַל־עָפָר נָֽחַת
They shall go down to the bars of the nether-world, When we are at rest together in the dust.
יבלו בַטּוֹב יְמֵיהֶם וּבְרֶגַע שְׁאוֹל יֵחָֽתּוּ
They spend their days in prosperity, And peacefully they go down to the grave.
צִיָּה גַם־חֹם יִגְזְלוּ מֵֽימֵי־שֶׁלֶג שְׁאוֹל חָטָֽאוּ
Drought and heat consume the snow waters; So doth the nether-world those that have sinned.
עָרוֹם שְׁאוֹל נֶגְדּוֹ וְאֵין כְּסוּת לָֽאֲבַדּֽוֹן
The nether-world is naked before Him, And Destruction hath no covering.
שִׂימֵנִי כַֽחוֹתָם עַל־לִבֶּךָ כַּֽחוֹתָם עַל־זְרוֹעֶךָ כִּֽי־עַזָּה כַמָּוֶת אַהֲבָה קָשָׁה כִשְׁאוֹל קִנְאָה רְשָׁפֶיהָ רִשְׁפֵּי אֵשׁ שַׁלְהֶבֶתְ יָֽה
