הוֹשֵׁעַ Hoshea
Often spelled Hosea in English. Every verse in which this name stands — 16 places, in canonical order, first appearance to last. These are the occurrences our own corpus tags as this name, counting every form the text writes it in, which is the number on the list.
Yehoshua's name before Moshe changed it when he sent him as one of the twelve spies (Numbers 13:16). It is also the name of a prophet, in whose book the marriage of Hoshea to a wayward wife pictures Israel's unfaithfulness to God (Book of Hosea), and of the last king of the northern kingdom, in whose reign Assyria conquered Israel (2 Kings 17). This spelling is also a Hebrew verb meaning “save,” so the count includes ordinary uses of that word as well.
