Sarah's Egyptian maidservant, given to Avram to bear him a child. She conceived Yishmael, and after Sarah weaned Yitzchak, Hagar and Yishmael were sent away, where an angel found her in the wilderness and preserved them (Genesis 16, 21). This spelling is shared with an ordinary Hebrew word, so the count reflects more than one meaning.
