God's four-letter Name — the Tetragrammaton, which the Rambam calls the Shem HaMeforash, the Name set apart (Foundations of the Torah 6:2). It is never pronounced as it is written: in prayer and in the reading of the Torah it is said as Ado-nai, and in ordinary speech Hashem. It stands in the Tanakh more often than any other Name.

Here I am; witness against me before the LORD, and before His anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? or whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I taken a ransom to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you.’
